Symposium on community medical care held (15/2/2008)

Health care workers at municipally-owned hospital declare the appeal

On February 15 a symposium on community medical care in Yamanashi was held in Kofu City, Yamanashi Prefecture. It was organized by JICHIRO Yamanashi HQ and RENGO Yamanashi with the aim of confirming the current situation regarding community medical care and exchanging opinions with local residents on the future of this serious issue.

The first speaker, President of RENGO Yamanashi, Mr. Watanabe, representing the organizers of the symposium, said that he hoped the symposium would be useful for both service providers and service users to get together and discuss how to move toward promoting safe and trustworthy community medical care.

The symposium panel was composed of various medical service providers including doctors, nurses and public servants who discussed their opinions on a wide variety of issues including the reasons for the current shortage of doctors; the effects of the shortage of medical specialists such as obstetricians, on local residents; the effects of the plan to cut the numbers of public service workers on the working conditions of doctors and nurses, etc. Participants also asked questions and made requests, and the symposium provided a good opportunity to share knowledge and awareness on this issue of community medical care. Finally, an appeal to “create resident-centered safe, secure and reliable medical care in all areas of Yamanashi” was adopted by participant applause and the symposium came to a close.
